Hey San Diego - It’s a hot start to the weekend with temps pushing the upper 80s Friday before cooling slightly by Sunday. The Flower Fields are officially open, Borrego Palm Canyon could be glowing with a desert super bloom, and Fido Fest brings the pups out in Santee. Roppongi makes its long-awaited return in La Jolla, and Padres Opening Day is officially on deck.
Let's get into it.

The Upcoming Events
⚾ Padres Opening Day – March 26, Petco Park
Baseball is back as the San Diego Padres kick off the 2026 season at Petco Park. Opening Day brings pregame buzz, downtown energy, and that first crack of the bat. Grab the printable schedule at the link and start planning your season.
🥾 Hike of the Week: Borrego Palm Canyon
If the desert really is lighting up with a super bloom, this is the hike to see it.
Located inside Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Borrego Palm Canyon is a classic 3-mile out-and-back trail that winds through desert washes, rocky canyon walls, and — in strong bloom years — carpets of wildflowers. Expect bursts of desert lilies, sand verbena, brittlebrush, and desert dandelion painting the landscape in yellows, purples, and white.
The payoff at the end is a rare California fan palm oasis tucked into the canyon — a dramatic contrast to the surrounding desert.
Go early. Bring water. And don’t step off trail — those blooms are fragile and short-lived.
Distance: ~3 miles round trip
Difficulty: Moderate (rocky sections, mild elevation gain)
The Views
Windansea Beach, La Jolla.

❓ San Diego History Trivia Answer
Answer: C) To meet minimum height requirements for Navy ships
When the Coronado Bridge opened in 1969, it needed enough vertical clearance for U.S. Navy aircraft carriers to pass safely beneath it. A straight bridge would have required a much steeper incline to reach the necessary height — creating unsafe driving conditions. The graceful curve lengthens the span, allowing the roadway to rise gradually while still providing the required clearance over San Diego Bay.
Engineering solution… and now one of the most recognizable silhouettes in the city!
