🥾 Hike of the Week – Daley Ranch & Dixon Lake Loop (Escondido)

Tucked behind Escondido’s Lake Dixon, Daley Ranch offers a network of trails through rolling hills, oak canyons, and wide-open meadows with views toward Palomar Mountain. A popular loop combines Creek Crossing and Ranch House Trails (about 5 miles, moderate) starting near the lake entrance.

Why go now: Cooler fall temps make this one ideal — crisp mornings, golden grass, and shady stretches perfect for weekend exploring.

Trailhead: Enter through Dixon Lake Recreation Area (1700 N. La Honda Dr., Escondido).
Parking: $5 on weekends; free weekdays before 8 a.m.
Bring: Water, hat, good shoes — and a camera if you catch the early light over the ranch house meadow.
