Hey San Diego — this weekend brings a little bit of everything. A laid-back coffee-shop market in La Mesa, championship rodeo action at Petco Park, a classic local pageant in Escondido, and hands-on gardening tips for winter growers. Recent rains have also turned Los Peñasquitos Canyon into one of the greenest, most scenic hikes of the season, while warm, dry weather sets the stage for an absolutely packed live-music lineup across the county. Plenty to do, no excuses to stay in.

Let’s dive in.

When: Opening date TBD (2026)
Where: 16480 Paseo Del Sur, Suite 105, San Diego (4S Ranch)

🥾 Hike of the Week: Los Penasquitos Canyon

Nestled between Mira Mesa and Rancho Peñasquitos, Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is one of San Diego’s best post-rain hikes, with flowing creeks, fresh greenery, and seasonal waterfalls transforming the canyon into a rare lush escape. The wide, mostly flat trail follows Peñasquitos Creek past sycamores, oaks, and sandstone cliffs, making it feel worlds away from the surrounding neighborhoods — especially after weeks of rain.

  • Distance: ~6.8 miles round trip (out-and-back; turn around anytime)

  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate (mostly flat, some muddy sections after rain)

  • Why now: Recent storms bring creek crossings, small waterfalls, and the greenest conditions of the year

  • Bonus: Excellent birdwatching and dramatic canyon reflections after rainfall

  • Good to know: Trails can be muddy; waterproof shoes recommended, and creek crossings may require hopping stones

A classic San Diego hike that’s at its absolute best right now — ideal for soaking in fresh air, flowing water, and winter color without tackling serious elevation.
