Mother’s Day weekend arrives with near-perfect weather and one of those classic San Diego lineups where everything somehow overlaps at once — waterfront brunches, Cajun festivals, cultural celebrations, wine walks, hidden coastal trails, and more live music than we can realistically fit into one newsletter. Whether you’re planning something classy, casual, outdoorsy, or delightfully weird, this weekend has options.

Let’s dive in.

The Events

🌸 Mother’s Day Brunch at the Hotel del Coronado – May 10, Coronado
An over-the-top brunch spread, oceanfront views, and one of San Diego’s most iconic hotels make this a classic Mother’s Day splurge.

🪶 San Diego American Indian Health Center Powwow – May 9–10, Balboa Park
Traditional dancing, drumming, cultural exhibitions, and food vendors come together for one of San Diego’s most vibrant cultural gatherings.

🎨 Coronado Art & Wine Festival – May 9, Coronado
Local artists, wine tastings, live music, and bayside charm make this a perfect excuse for a spring day in Coronado.

Every headline satisfies an opinion. Except ours.

Remember when the news was about what happened, not how to feel about it? 1440's Daily Digest is bringing that back. Every morning, they sift through 100+ sources to deliver a concise, unbiased briefing — no pundits, no paywalls, no politics. Just the facts, all in five minutes. For free.

🎊 Fiesta de Los Peñasquitos – May 10, Rancho Peñasquitos
This longtime community festival mixes live music, local food vendors, carnival rides, and family-friendly small-town San Diego energy in the heart of PQ.

🎉 Party on the Park – May 9, University Heights
Live music, food vendors, craft beer, and neighborhood block-party vibes turn Park Boulevard into one big community celebration in the heart of University Heights.

The Food

🦞 Gator By The Bay – May 8 – 10, Spanish Landing Park
San Diego’s annual Cajun takeover brings crawfish boils, dancing, and Gulf Coast energy to the waterfront all weekend long. 100 performances on 7 stages and 10,000 pounds of crawfish! Map.

The Upcoming

🎭 San Diego International Fringe Festival – May 12–24, Multiple Venues
San Diego gets a little weird in the best way possible. Expect indie theater, comedy, music, immersive performances, and experimental shows spread across intimate venues all over the city.

~1 mile | Easy | La Jolla

Tucked between the trees above the shoreline, the Coast Walk Trail is one of those rare San Diego paths that feels both hidden and iconic at the same time.

The short dirt trail winds along the cliffs between La Jolla Cove and Boomer Beach with nonstop ocean views, sea caves, crashing surf, and plenty of chances to spot sea lions below. It’s an easy walk with huge scenery payoff — ideal for a relaxed spring weekend outing before grabbing coffee or brunch in the Village.

Distance: ~1 mile
Difficulty: Easy
Location: La Jolla Cove / Coast Blvd area
