❓ San Diego History Trivia Answer
Answer: B) A Marine Corps rifle range
Before UC San Diego opened in the 1960s, much of the area was home to Camp Calvin B. Matthews, a Marine Corps marksmanship training facility where thousands of recruits learned rifle skills. If you know where to look, a small sentry booth still survives on campus as a quiet reminder of the site's military past. Most of the remaining Camp Matthews buildings will be replaced by the new Alumni Tower Project.
