San Diego is doing that thing it does this time of year—stacking wildly different (and equally fun) events into one weekend. You’ve got a massive street fair in Encinitas, rodeo action out in Lakeside, rare vintage cars overlooking the ocean in La Jolla, and one of the city’s most unique art traditions in full bloom. Add in mild temps and 200+ live music shows, and you’ve got a weekend worth getting out for.

Let’s dive in.

The Events

🌸 Encinitas Spring Street Fair – April 25–26, Encinitas
Coastal street fair vibes with 400+ vendors, live music, and food booths stretching along Highway 101.

🎨 Bloom Bash – April 25, San Diego Museum of Art
An after-hours garden party in Balboa Park with DJs, cocktails, and art-inspired floral energy.

🌺 Art Alive – April 24–27, San Diego Museum of Art
Florists reinterpret famous artworks with stunning floral displays—one of San Diego’s most unique spring traditions.

🤠 Lakeside Rodeo – April 25–26, Lakeside
A true Western throwback—bull riding, barrel racing, and rodeo action that’s been a local tradition for decades.

🍻 Duck Foot 3-Year Anniversary – April 26, Miramar

Adventures led by women, designed to make a difference.

Imagine a vacation that’s not only transformative for you but helps open doors for the local women you meet along the way. That’s what Intrepid’s new Women’s Expeditions in Peru, Cambodia and Bhutan are all about.

Designed specifically for women travellers, these trips offer immersive local experiences that support women-run and owned businesses in each destination. With an expert local leader out front, you could trek the lesser-known Chinchero to Urquillos route in the Peruvian Andes alongside an all-female crew, dive into Cambodia’s street food scene on a women-run tuk tuk tour, or unwind with a traditional herbal hot stone bath at a women-owned farmhouse in Bhutan.

First launched in 2018, Intrepid’s Women’s Expedition range is designed to break down barriers, foster discussion and create meaningful connections for travellers and locals alike.

🚗 La Jolla Concours d’Elegance – April 24–26, La Jolla
Rare vintage cars, oceanfront views, and serious luxury vibes—one of San Diego’s most stunning (and photogenic) weekends.

The Food

🌮 Murrieta’s Fine Mexican Food – Bonita
A true South Bay staple with a loyal local following—Murrieta’s delivers generous plates, strong margaritas, and that classic sit-down Mexican restaurant vibe. Think sizzling fajitas, hearty combo plates, and a relaxed patio that makes it easy to linger. Recommended by Barb, one of our newest subscribers!

The Upcoming

🐾 Walk for Animals – May 2, San Diego
Thousands of dogs, a scenic group walk, and big community energy—one of the city’s most feel-good annual events.

🎬 GI Film Festival San Diego – May 6–8, San Diego
Powerful films spotlighting military and veteran stories, with screenings, panels, and conversations you won’t find anywhere else.

Up to 12 miles | Easy | Mission Bay (multiple access points around the bay)

If there’s a “default perfect day” route in San Diego, this is it. The Mission Bay Loop wraps around the bay with wide, mostly flat paths that work just as well for a casual stroll as they do for a full-on bike cruise.

You can go the full ~12-mile loop or just pick a stretch—either way, it’s all about easy miles, water views, and plenty of spots to stop along the way. Bonus: you’ll roll right past Belmont Park if you want to mix in a little classic boardwalk energy.

Tip: Start on the east side in the morning for calmer paths, then finish near the ocean once the clouds burn off.

❓ San Diego History Trivia Answer

Answer: A) Giant Dipper & The Plunge

The Story:
Both the Giant Dipper roller coaster and The Plunge natatorium date back to 1925, when developer John D. Spreckels built what was then called the Mission Beach Amusement Center.

The Giant Dipper is one of the last remaining classic wooden roller coasters on the West Coast—still operating nearly a century later. Just steps away, The Plunge was once one of the largest indoor saltwater swimming pools in the world, drawing crowds year-round.

Their addition to the National Register in 1978 recognized not just the structures themselves, but the golden age of seaside amusement parks they represent—right here in San Diego.
