San Diego Trivia - Did you know?

🌸 Kate Sessions’ Jacaranda Gift

In 1892, pioneering horticulturist Kate Sessions leased 30 scrubby acres of what we now call Balboa Park. In return, she promised to plant 100 trees inside the park and 300 more city-wide each year. Her globe-trotting seed imports—especially the lavender jacaranda—quickly transformed the dusty mesa into the lush park where we stroll, picnic and attend events today. So when you see purple petals of the Jacaranda you are seeing Kate Sessions’ 130-year-old love note to San Diego.

Think you know San Diego? Reply with your best trivia, and we might feature it next!
